Mom, (single or married) if you’re like me, you are constantly calling people to do home repairs or home maintenance projects. And, all the people you call are probably men. Well, here’s a way for you to become more independent in this way, and love yourself while you are doing it!

In the 10 years I’ve been divorced, I can think of several times when I thought to myself, “Boy, I wish I had a husband right now.”

Some specific times that come to mind: when the toilet overflowed, when the living room needed repainting, when my daughter pushed her bedroom door so hard it caused a hole in the wall, and most urgently, when I saw a mouse run through my kitchen.

Instead of going to the store to buy mouse traps, I jumped up on a chair and screamed my head off for 10 minutes. Then I called my friend crying, and she ended up sending her husband over to set up some traps.

I have always considered myself an ambitious, independent, strong and courageous woman, but when it comes to home repairs and maintenance (which includes rodent control), to say I feel inadequate is an understatement.

So when I heard about HIP Chicks, a website that offers virtual classes for women who want to empower themselves as handymen (or handywomen), I was curious….
