When I got divorced, my kids were 3 and 5. Fast forward 12 years later and the 5 year-old started applying to colleges. To say I was clueless is an understatement. I had no idea how we were going to pay for all four years. I was unsure of what the best colleges were for him. I had no clue what a FAFSA was (to this day the most complicated form I’ve ever filled out). And I didn’t know how to answer the question: “How much am I obligated by law to pay and how much is my ex going to contribute?”

It all started with my own personal story. I was a Financial/Divorce Coach who helped people attain goals, specifically with regards to their personal finances. As clients started to ask me how they were going to afford the cost of college, my own son was approaching high school and I certainly wanted the best for my son!
